William F. "Rick" Cronk, of Lafayette, has retired as President of the Boy Scouts of America.
Cronk, who is also the former President and CEO of Dreyer's Ice Cream, served as National President of the Boy Scouts from 2006 through 2008. Rick was honored Monday, December 8, at the headquarters of the Mt. Diablo-Silverado Boy Scout Council in Pleasant Hill. The Council serves Boy Scouts in Contra Costa, Solano, Lake and Napa Counties and parts of Alameda County.
The portrait of Rick Cronk which hung in the National Boy Scout Headquarters in Dallas, Texas, is now displayed in the lobby of the Mt. Diablo-Silverado Council. In addition, Cronk was presented with a framed collection of patches commemorating the 50th anniversary of Scouting from 1960, compiled by Board Member Ken Towers. In 2010, the nation will celebrate the 100th birthday of Boy Scouts.
Cronk, who is 66, has been active in Boy Scouts since he was a child and then took active leadership his entire adult life. Rick achieved the rank of Star Scout, and his three sons are all Eagle Scouts. Cronk served as a district chairman, council president, area president and chairman of the World Scout Foundation. He received the Silver Buffalo Award in 2001.
Cronk was the national commissioner of the Boy Scouts of America from 1999 to 2004. He then became an executive vice president in 2006 before becoming the president in 2006.
At the 2008 World Scout Conference, he was elected to a three year term on the World Scout Committee, and later served as chairman. He also won the Bronze Wolf award.
