The Lafayette Juniors will be holding their 16th annual Rummage Sale on Sunday, November 15, 2009. The Lafayette Suburban Women's Club is associated with the General Federation of Women's Clubs, an international organization of women dedicated to serving their communities through volunteer work and fundraising efforts.
The Rummage Sale, which began in 1993, is one of two major fundraisers held by the Lafayette Juniors. Proceeds from both events go directly back to the community via local nonprofit organizations. This year, the beneficiaries of the Rummage Sale are Youth Homes, Xenophon Riding Center, Futures Explored, Contra Costa Interfaith Housing, and Child Abuse Prevention Council. The Kitchen Tour, which takes place in the spring, is the second fundraiser and will benefit Brighter Beginnings.
Donations from the Rummage Sale come directly from the 50 plus members and their friends, and include gently used baby gear, children's clothing, women's fashions, toys, household goods, furniture, and outdoor equipment. Last year's event generated over $10,000 in sales, thanks to generous donations of furniture, play equipment, and new lacrosse equipment by members and friends in the community.
In addition to sponsoring social events for members, the club's other activities include organizing a cleanup day for the Lafayette Community Center's Tot Lot, making comfort pillows for post-surgical breast cancer survivors, and creating handmade blankets for children in crisis.
The Rummage Sale will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Lafayette Community Center's Live Oak Room, 500 St. Mary's Road, Lafayette. For more information, visit
