Saklan Valley School 2nd Graders recently raised $410 for Guide Dogs for the Blind. As part of their 2nd grade eye unit, the students study the properties of light energy, prisms and rainbows, and "How we see," which includes an in-depth study of the parts of the eye. They will end the unit by visiting the Guide Dogs for the Blind campus in San Rafael. The students were so excited about this unit that together with their teacher, Mrs. Carol Schofield and the parents, they organized a bake sale to raise money for this worthy cause. On March 22nd, three very special four-legged visitors came onto campus to visit with the class. One of the students, Cecily, wrote the following report on the visit. "Three different breeds of dogs came to our classroom. Toga is 14 months, Adonis is 8 months, and Perrin 2 years old. I learned that they are born at the Guide Dog campus and when they are 6-8 weeks old get placed in a home. When they are 18 months they return to the Guide Dogs campus. Less than 50% get to be Guide dogs." The class is looking forward to visiting the Guide Dog campus on April 25th when they will present their donation of $410.
Saklan Valley School is located in Moraga and serves students Preschool thru 8th grade.
At each grade level, service projects are integrated with classroom learning. Through participation in various service learning projects, our students gain the skills and confidence they need to make a difference in the world.
