Lamorinda women Brittany Presten (Orinda, Stanford) and Alia Shafi (Lafayette, Brown University) qualified for the lightweight 4x boat for the USA National Team. They competed at the U23 World Championships in Varese, Italy, held in July. After qualifying for the Grand Final, the team raced to a fifth place finish overall.
Presten and Shafi rowed together at Oakland Strokes as part of the Varsity 8+ boat that won the Head of the Charles regatta in Boson and the Youth National Championship in Oak Ridge, Tenn. in 2012.
