The Rheem is more than just a movie theater. At 7 p.m. on May 21, the Rheem Theatre will take you back in time as you join Adam Reeves and Patti Leidecker in recreating a night from the past as they pay tribute to the USO Canteens of World War II.
Songster extraordinaire Reeves will entertain you with tunes and memories from the 1940s - a time when some of the best and most memorable songs filled the radio airways. He will be accompanied on a baby grand piano by Leidecker, an amazing talent and accomplished player. Combined, the two have performed all over the Bay Area for over 50 years.
Reeves and Leidecker will perform the songs from the sentimental period such as "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square," "Pennies from Heaven," "Beat Me, Daddy, Eight to the Bar," "Over the Rainbow" and "As Time Goes By." Then the mood changes as some of the great battle ballads take center stage with such great songs as "I'll Be Seeing You," "Shoo-Shoo Baby," "G.I. Jive," "Over There" and "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree."
The show is being performed to help benefit the disabled veterans from past and recent wars. There will be an opportunity to get to meet and learn about Patriots Honor, a nonprofit organization made up of "military helping military" and whose sole purpose is "giving back to those who gave."
The last part of the show will be a grand old sing-along of the greatest patriotic songs written, such as "God Bless America," "America The Beautiful," "Yankee Doodle Dandy," and "The Star Spangled Banner," that will be sure to have you rising to your feet.
Tickets are $15 or you can buy the Rheem Live Series Pass (May, June and July live events) for $65 online at www.lamorindatheatres.com. The Rheem Live Series Pass includes the May 21 USO Canteen and the following special events:
