 | | | Image provided | | | | | | With plans to address physical, operational and environmental conditions, BART is scheduled to start work this May on site improvements at its Lafayette station. BART Engineering Division Manager Mary Grace Houlihan updated the Lafayette City Council at its March 27 meeting about the reconstruction project.
Houlihan said that the improvements, which include replacing deteriorated paving, providing additional parking spots for ADA compliance, and offering better signage, would commence after the current solar panel installation is finished, which has an estimated completion date of mid-April.
BART riders can expect to see an enhanced "Kiss and Ride" area together with improved pedestrian access, more motorcycle parking as well as improvements to the bus zone and two-way drive aisles, which will improve circulation.
Addressing environmental challenges, BART will be adding trees, improving landscaping, providing a rain garden, better irrigation, LED lighting and permeable pavement.
Houlihan said the project is expected to take about eight months to complete. While there will be no impact to bus services, or to pedestrians and cyclists, parking will be restricted as they close one lot at a time.
