Jeanette Fritzky Tribute Walk planned for Oct. 27

A tribute walk honoring late Council Member Jeanette Fritzky will be held at the Moraga Commons Park, 1425 St. Mary's Road, Moraga. The 1.6-mile roundtrip walk along the Lafayette-Moraga Trail on Saturday, Oct. 27, will benefit the American Cancer Society. The goal is to raise $20,000 and increase awareness about lung cancer.
Fritzky's family honored her wishes for a private Celebration of Life on Oct. 4. The Town of Moraga also chose to honor Fritzky by flying the town flags at half-mast Oct. 4-5.
She was a much admired public figure and many of Fritzky's constituents wanted to express their appreciation for her and her devotion to Moraga. After approaching Fritzky's family, the decision was agreed upon to hold a fundraiser. Fritzky's passion about educating the public to the risk of lung cancer in Asian women who have never smoked, made the American Cancer Society an easy choice as the walk's beneficiary.
Sponsors for the walk include The Jeanette Fritzky Tribute Walk Committee, the Town of Moraga, Moraga Scout Troop 234, Moraga Chamber of Commerce and the Moraga-Orinda Firefighters Association.
Edy Schwartz, who passed away Sept. 8 after losing her battle with brain cancer, will also be honored at the event.
