The USA Men's Junior National water polo team just won the gold medal in the Junior Pan American Games in Sao Paulo Brazil on July 31. Three boys from the Lamorinda Area were on that team (James Perry, from Orinda, Tommy Briskey, from Orinda and Nick Hoversten, from Lafayette). USA beat Columbia, Puerto Rico, Netherlands Antilles, Argentina, Brazil and Canada to win the gold. To make the USA Junior National team, these Lamorinda boys had to go to many try outs for many months-- first making the regional zone team, then trying out in Annapolis, Maryland where they competed against boys from across the nation for a slot on the national team roster. Of those boys chosen for the national team, there was another 3 day try out to get a slot on the travel team to go to Brazil to represent the USA in this international competition.
