Let the E in EFO mean Electronic Clean-up!
By Jane Wiser, Educational Foundation of Orinda

Don't know what to do with your old iPhone? Thinking about upgrading your laptop this year? Does your Dell need to go to the dump? Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 4th, when Orinda will once again prove it is eco-progressive and educationally committed. The Orinda Garden Club, furthering its commitment to conservation and environmental protection, is organizing this opportunity to embrace environmental recycling. All proceeds will be donated to the Educational Foundation of Orinda, making it a win-win on all "E" fronts. Not only will we help the Environment, we will benefit Education and our children as well. "The Orinda Garden Club is proud to sponsor this event for a volunteer organization that gives so much to the quality of education in Orinda," says Cathleen Sodos, Chairman of the event for the Garden Club. She adds "It is a great opportunity for two of Orinda's most valued organizations to come together for a great cause." Bring your e-waste to the Orinda Union School District office parking lot (the old JKF campus at 8 Altarinda Way) between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Items that can be recycled include microwaves, computers, printers, cell phones, cables and cords, stereo components, zip drives, TVs and VCRs, DVDs and radios.and much more. Equipment containing Cathode Ray Tubes (that's right, your old T.V. picture tube) can no longer be disposed in our landfills and must be handled professionally. ASL, the largest e-waste recycler in Northern California, processes over one million pounds of e-waste each month. That's a lot of old gear! For a complete list of accepted items, please refer to the ASL website at www.aslrecycling.com. October 4th is also the date of the annual Book Fair at the Community Center. Along with other community activities, the Orinda Garden Club will be offering demonstrations on composting and recycling, and selling items for your garden as well. Stop by after dropping off your e-waste, and enjoy.
