Orinda recently joined Lafayette and Danville to hire the Matrix Consulting Group to conduct a Police Services Study. Since the incorporation of Orinda, the City has contracted with the Costa County Sheriff's Office for police services. Lafayette and Danville also contract with the Sheriff for law enforcement.
Although Orinda has been very satisfied with the Sheriff's Office law enforcement coverage and emergency response, the costs for those services have increased over time and escalated recently due to the County's post-employment medical and pension obligations. "I have been impressed by the commitment of the Sheriff's Office to provide quality law enforcement services to the City of Orinda," states Orinda City Manager Janet Keeter. "The intent of the study is to identify and evaluate options for law enforcement services and associated costs, including continuation of the contract with the Sheriff's Office. The study is being driven by the increasing costs of the contract and is no reflection on the quality of services being provided by the Sheriff's Office," she adds.
The study will take approximately four months to complete and the results will presented at a future City Council meeting.
