Throughout the country the National Association of Letter Carriers (NACL) will be collecting donated food on May 9th in their "Stamp Out Hunger" campaign. From California to Maine carriers collected a record 73.1 million pounds of food in last year's drive.
Lamorinda donations will go to the Contra Costa and Solano County Food Bank. "Millions and millions of families are suffering - struggling to make ends meet and put food on the table," said NACL President William H. Young in a prepared statement. "More than ever food banks, pantries and shelters need our help this year."
"We hope that residents continue their generosity," said Moraga Delivery Supervisor Rick Harewood. Donors are welcome to drop off non-perishable donations in Food Bank containers in all area Post Office lobbies or leave donations by their mailbox on May 9.
Low income seniors can receive free groceries twice per month through the Food Bank's Brown Bag Program at the nearest distribution center in Walnut Creek on the first and third Thursday of the month. Food for Children and the Food Assistance program are also available. Documentation of age, income and residence in Contra Costa or Solano County required for all programs. For more information on all Food Bank programs, go to
