GLORIETTA PRESENTS "SEUSSICAL": Glorietta 4th and 5th graders present the musical "Suessical," featuring stories and characters from Dr. Seuss. Acalanes High School students’ SAVE OUR SCHOOL Benefit concert, is scheduled for 7:00 PM on May 15th at the Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church. The concert will feature classical and world music performed by students and professional musicians, including a finale with Gold Coast Chamber Players featuring Jeremy Cohen. Tickets will be sold for $20, and a complete meal (pasta, bread, salad, and dessert) will also be sold before the show and during intermission for $7. Tickets can either be bought at the door for $20 (a full meal is $7, starting at 6:00 pm) or online at http://acalaneshs.revtrak.net.

16th Annual Concert at the Res -Saturday May 16, 2009 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The Lafayette Rotary Club’s FREE afternoon event showcases our local school music programs that play live music at the beautiful Lafayette Reservoir. The Rotarians who produce the show direct event proceeds to support local school music programs, and to help fund local charities and organizations. Performing at this year's Concert at the Res will be the Stanley Symphonic Band, the highly acclaimed Acalanes Wind Ensemble, the Big Band of Rossmoor, and the Bentley School Jazz combo. A free shuttle is provided for rides from main parking lot to the concert.

Landscape Painting Exhibit at Lafayette Studio May 1- May 8, 2009. The students of Charles White's landscape painting classes will exhibit their work at the Lafayette Studio starting with a reception and demonstration on Friday, May 1 from 6-8pm. Saturday Artists Markets Open at The Lafayette Gallery will be held on May 9th, June 13th, July 11th and August 8th from 11 to 5 pm on Saturdays. The parking lot of the Lafayette Gallery will be transformed into an inviting outdoor market place with artists displaying and demonstrating their art. First Friday Forum presents UC Berkeley Professor Ananya Roy speaking on Global Poverty: Challenges and Hopes for the New Millennium on May 1 at 1:30 p.m. in the sanctuary at Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Drive, Lafayette. Roy will explore the efforts to alleviate poverty and the challenges they face such as the current fiscal crisis, the food crisis, and global trade. Roy is the recipient of the 2006 Distinguished Teaching Award, Berkeley’s highest teaching honor. Refreshments are served at 1 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.

“Julia Morgan, Architect” is a performance about Miss Morgan’s struggle to become an architect and her lifelong involvement with women’s philanthropic organizations. Betty Marvin, a professional historian, who bases her Julia Morgan impersonation on extensive research, will perform this portrayal. May 2nd!!!! Lafayette Nursery School’s Annual Science Day of Discovery. Come join us and make volcanoes explode, blast rockets into space, and explore the gooey texture of ‘flubber.’ Become an archeologist for the day and dig for dinosaur bones, or play with huge bubbles. The Moraga Juniors is sponsoring Moraga’s first ever sidewalk chalk art contest as part of the Moraga Community Faire on May 9 at Rheem Shopping Center. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. the day of the event, and contestants can work on their creations between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. A $1 participation fee covers the cost of the chalk. The theme is “Beautiful Moraga,” and prizes will be awarded to winners in each age group: 3-5, 5-8, 9-12 & 13-18. Glassblowers at Smyers Glass Studio annual Spring Open House and Sale: April 30, May 1, 2, and 3 from 10am to 5pm at 675 East H Street in Benicia. Visitors are welcome back into the glassblowers workspace where skilled artisans gather hot molten glass out of the 2000 degree furnace and fashion it into functional objects of beauty. Vases, wine goblets, glass pumpkins, jewelry, bowls and lighting are just some of the objects that the Smyers artists create and display in the studio's showroom. Visitors can feel the furnace heat and converse with the artist's while they work the glass. Ample parking.
