Acalanes High School students’ SAVE OUR SCHOOL Benefit concert, is scheduled for 7:00 PM on May 15th at the Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church. The concert will feature classical and world music performed by students and professional musicians, including a finale with Gold Coast Chamber Players featuring Jeremy Cohen. Tickets will be sold for $20, and a complete meal (pasta, bread, salad, and dessert) will also be sold before the show and during intermission for $7. Tickets can either be bought at the door for $20 (a full meal is $7, starting at 6:00 pm) or online at http://acalaneshs.revtrak.net.

16th Annual Concert at the Res -Saturday May 16, 2009 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. The Lafayette Rotary Club’s FREE afternoon event showcases our local school music programs that play live music at the beautiful Lafayette Reservoir. The Rotarians who produce the show direct event proceeds to support local school music programs, and to help fund local charities and organizations. Performing at this year's Concert at the Res will be the Stanley Symphonic Band, the highly acclaimed Acalanes Wind Ensemble, the Big Band of Rossmoor, and the Bentley School Jazz combo. First Friday Forum presents UC Berkeley Professor Ananya Roy speaking on Global Poverty: Challenges and Hopes for the New Millennium on May 1 at 1:30 p.m. in the sanctuary at Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church, 49 Knox Drive, Lafayette. Roy will explore the efforts to alleviate poverty and the challenges they face such as the current fiscal crisis, the food crisis, and global trade. The Moraga Juniors is sponsoring Moraga’s first ever sidewalk chalk art contest as part of the Moraga Community Faire on May 9 at Rheem Shopping Center. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. the day of the event, and contestants can work on their creations between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. A $1 participation fee covers the cost of the chalk. The theme is “Beautiful Moraga,” and prizes will be awarded to winners in each age group: 3-5, 5-8, 9-12 & 13-18.
