MOFD Acts Quickly to Fight Orinda Wildfire

A wildfire burned 5.2 acres of land in the vicinity of Valley View Drive and Lost Valley Drive in Orinda on Saturday, July 18.  Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District aggressively attacked the fire to prevent it from reaching two structures on Crestview Court.

According to Battalion Chief Darrell Lee, the fire appeared to be started by a spark from a power line that reached the dry grass next to the road.  50 firefighters, ten engines, 2 paramedic units and a helicopter responded to the blaze, which had burned about two acres of the steep hillside before they arrived.

Lee says the fire was reported at 10:43a.m. and was under control in less than an hour. The fire was fully extinguished by mid-afternoon, but crews continued to monitor the area for hotspots.  One firefighter sustained injuries.
