The contest is open to all children, youth and teens in the following age/grade divisions. On Friday, October 2, 2009 The Suburban Women's Club of Lafayette is sponsoring a 'Day at the Races' at Golden Gate Fields. Mount Diablo Challenge - Sunday October 4, 2009 - a 10.8 mile timed bike ride, starting at Athenian School in Danville and climbing up Southgate Road 3,249 feet to the summit of Mount Diablo. 1,000 cycling enthusiasts compete and prizes are awarded for several categories in a ceremony at the summit with food and beverages for all. Lamorinda Wildfire Forum, Wednesday October 7th, 2009 at 7pm, Orinda Library Auditorium. This meeting will be geared for Lamorinda residents who live in areas where wildfire could spread very quickly and where evacuation routes are limited. We will discuss ways families can decrease potential fire intensity and rate of spread, ways of preparing for evacuation as well as things neighborhoods can do together to achieve these goals. There will be ample time for discussion.

A CERT training/drill is being held on Sunday, October 18th from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Orinda Community Center and Park. Drill participants will be the cities of Moraga, Orinda and Lafayette, the Moraga/Orinda Fire District, The American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Lamorinda CERT. We are seeking 100 volunteers of all ages to act as simulated disaster victims for this training/drill. To volunteer, contact CERT Registrar Ken Tom at TTKenTom@aol.com or (925) 376-0533.
