The Moraga Art Gallery presents a group show, "Bold Statements" by local Bay Area and Lamorinda artists showing watercolors, oil painting, collage, ceramics, photography, mixed media, jewelry and glass design through October 31. Lafayette resident Steve Hobbs will be exhibiting his photography at Fastframe of Lafayette during the month of November. He will have an opening reception on November 15 from 12-4 p.m. His recent focus has been in and around Lafayette, with special interest in exploring the Lafayette Reservoir and the many faces of Mount Diablo. In his landscapes Steve is always inspired by the amazing interplay of color and light, and by the story within the photograph. FASTFRAME is located at 3571 Mt. Diablo Blvd., next to Postino’s. “All That Glitters,” is the annual holiday exhibit at the Lafayette Gallery, 50 Lafayette Circle, Lafayette. Painting, prints, photography, ceramics, watercolor and mixed media art works feature memories and personal expression. The University of California Alumni Chorus presents "Music of the Night: An Evening In Song" on Sunday, Nov 15, 7:00 P.M., at First Congregational Church of Berkeley, 2345 Channing Way near the U.C. Berkeley Campus. The concert will be conducted by Dr. Mark Sumner, director of the U.C. Choral Ensembles and will feature pianist and associate director, William García Ganz, organist Mark Bruce and a guest appearance by Perfect Fifth, UC Berkeley's premier madrigal ensemble. Organ Recital by Rudy de Vos, Music Director of Oakland's Christ the Light Cathedral on Saturday, Nov. 21, 8 p.m. The recital is de Vos' first opportunity to perform a full-length program in the East Bay area. The recital includes classic religious selections and is performed on the historic pipe organ in the Chapel at Saint Mary's College. The chapel pipe organ of Saint Mary's combines original pipe work and a classic façade from 1859, additional pipe work from 1901 and modern digital control systems completed in the year 2000. Saint Mary’s College Performing Arts Theatre Program presents a production of "At Mrs. Dalloway’s Party," an evening of short stories written by Virginia Woolf and adapted for the stage. Woolf’s innovative “stream of consciousness” narrative sets the evening’s entertainment simultaneously at a party thrown by the famous Mrs. Dalloway, and inside the minds of several guests. Wry observations and elegant prose come to life onstage through some of Woolf’s most amusing Characters. The play opens November 12th for a two-weekend run in LeFevre Theatre on the Saint Mary’s College campus. Tickets are $15 general admission; $12 for non-Saint Mary’s students with ID as well as Saint Mary’s faculty and staff, and $8 dollars for Saint Mary’s students. Group discounts are available. Lamorinda Moms’ 12th Annual Preschool Fair will be held on Thursday, November 12 from 6:30-9:00 pm at Oakwood Athletic Club in Lafayette. Representatives from over 30 Lamorinda preschools will be available to discuss their programs and answer questions. This event is free and open to the public. Children are welcome! You will receive a comparison of each of the participating preschools and have the opportunity to meet and talk with the directors and parents from each school. Nor Cal Kids Triathlon on Saturday, November 14, 9 am to about 1 pm. Miramonte High School, 750 Moraga Way, Orinda. The City of Lafayette and the City of Walnut Creek are partnering this year to honor area veterans on Veterans’ Day. The celebration will be held on Wednesday, Nov 11th at 11:00 am, at the new Veterans Memorial Building at 3780 Mt. Diablo Boulevard, Lafayette. The ceremony will include performances by the Walnut Creek Concert Band with a musical salute to all the armed forces branches, mayoral welcomes from both cities, Marine guard presentation of colors, and a key note speech by Col. Allan F.P. Cruz, USMC (Ret.), President of the Lafayette Veteran’s Building Board of Directors. The ceremony is free and all area veterans are welcome and invited to attend. Project Transcend Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower the lives and communities of the poor and underprivileged in developing countries is holding a wine tasting event in Moraga on Nov 7th from 4-7 pm to support their Tanzanian Sewing School Project. The sewing school provides vocational sewing training and basic business/money handling skills for underprivileged young girls in Tanzania. These girls, ages 14 – 18, are unable to continue their formal education; many do not even have the opportunity to finish primary school. Tickets are $50 per person. Ninth annual Save Mount Diablo Trail Adventure,
a family hike, 10 kilometer run and half-marathon on Nov. 8 at Mount Diablo’s beautiful Pine Canyon and Pine Ridge. 500 participants are expected. Race and hike begin at 9:00 am. The Lafayette Senior Recreation Center was founded in 1950 and is operated solely by volunteers for the purpose of providing recreation and entertainment at monthly birthday luncheons, bingo, bridge, yoga and trips. They meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Methodist Church (not affiliated) at 955 Moraga Road, Lafayette. Speaker: The Honorable Joyce Cram, a long-time resident of Moraga who has presided over the newly established Elder Protection Court where she rules on all elder abuse cases arising in Contra Costa County, including criminal matters, civil matters, and conservatorships. Come listen to Judge Cram share her experiences and perspectives after presiding over this court for the past year.

The Mt. Diablo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will met on Saturday, November 14, at the Vista Room of Hillside Clubhouse, Rossmoor. The meeting will begin at 11:45 with a catered high tea, followed by a short business meeting, and the speaker program. Pulitzer Prize nominee Craig MacDonald, who is a renowned Gold Rush writer and contributing editor of the Sierra Heritage Magazine, is a return guest speaker who will be recounting more tales of women who won the West - “Gutsy Women – Historically Speaking”. The Stroke Support Group of Contra Costa County will hold its monthly meeting in the Ball Auditorium at John Muir Medical Center-Walnut Creek Campus, 1601 Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek on Monday, Nov 9 from 7-9 p.m. The speaker will be Gwen Gates of UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center to discuss her study on whether/how strokes cause memory loss. Composting is a great way to reduce yard waste while generating material to improve the soil texture and add valuable nutrients to the soil.
