Sergeant Gwen Brady has been employed with the Office of the Sheriff for the past twelve and a half years and just recently transferred to Lafayette. Prior to becoming a sergeant over four years ago, she was enlisted with the U.S. Navy and is a Gulf War Veteran.
In her role as police officer, she has worked all over the county: Richmond, Baypoint, Rodeo, San Pablo, El Sobrante, Alamo and San Ramon. She was also a D.A.R.E. Officer and was the first Officer to teach the Character Counts! program in Northern California.
Brady is a busy woman. In addition to her full time job she's the president of the Contra Costa County Deputies for Better Community Relations, which is a non-profit organization of officers who raise money and donate off-duty time to the betterment of the community. They support schools in west Contra Costa County with gym equipment and school supplies, and sponsor the North Richmond Senior Center with holiday meals, among other things. They also sponsor a Holiday Honors Program for kids who are excellent students but are a little less fortunate financially, and Easter program and Semi-Annual Summer Day Camp.
"I am very excited to work in an area where community policing is a shared necessity throughout Lafayette Police Department," said Officer Brady.
