Doug Buser, a 2005 graduate of Miramonte High School, is providing the Seattle University Redhawks with Division I experience. Coming into the 2010 season, Buser, senior outfielder, was the only player on the SeattleU roster with game experience at the Division I level, having previously played at the University of Oklahoma.
The Redhawks Athletic Department is presently in Year Two of the reclassification process towards moving up to NCAA Division I status.
Buser was recently named the Featured Student-Athlete of the week by GoSeattleU.com.
One of two players to start all 26 games for the Redhawks, Buser has improved at the plate after a slow start, hitting 10-for-21 (.476) over the past seven games to raise his overall batting average to a season-high .255. He hit his first home run of the season in game one of an April 2 doubleheader at the University of Nevada.
Playing center field, he has been flawless with 79 putouts and no errors. Buser has also been perfect in stealing situations, collecting eight stolen bases without being caught, to lead the squad.
"For us, Doug Buser has been a tremendous leader both on and off the field. He has taken a hold of our young kids and helped them out in the classroom as well as assisted them in getting used to college life. As a baseball player and as a student-athlete, he is a great role model for all our players and he sets a great standard for the future of our program," head coach Donny Harrel said.
Buser is majoring in communications and currently carries a 3.394 grade point average.
