For their Girl Scout Bronze Award, the girls of Troop 30734 chose the theme of cooking, nutrition and feeding the hungry. Throughout the year these Moraga sixth graders have completed badges, activities and outings related to their theme to fulfill the requirements for the Bronze Award. For their major service project, the troop prepared and served brunch to families served by Shelter, Inc. at a transitional housing complex in Antioch. On Saturday, April 17, approximately 35 adults and children enjoyed a home cooked meal of pancakes, muffins, cheesy eggs, bacon, sausage and fruit. The adults enjoyed coffee and socializing while the Girl Scouts entertained their children with craft projects and games. The morning ended with the resident children and Girl Scouts dancing together in a round of freeze dance, with any signs of shyness long forgotten. The best part of the event, according to Girl Scout Ellen Gerst, was "seeing all the kids playing together and having fun. They were happy we were there and we had a great time making the food and crafts for them!"
