On Sunday, March 7, 2010, eight members of Orinda Girl Scout Troop 30662 hosted the Girl Scout International Faire 2010, at Orinda Intermediate School.
Approximately 270 girls from Orinda and Moraga attended, and 15 countries were represented.
The annual International Faire is a tribute to Girl Scouts' World Thinking Day, which celebrates international friendships and recognizes the role of Girl Scouts USA as a part of the global community. In recognition of the World Thinking Day focus on global poverty and hunger, the girls chose "Feed the World" for the International Faire 2010 motto. These themes are inspired by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDG's), which aim to improve the lives of the world's poorest people.
The Orinda Moraga Girl Scout Service Unit, an association which includes all the Girl Scout troops in Orinda and Moraga, held a drawing at the Faire to collect dollars for the Haitian Earthquake Relief Organization. Additionally, a collection for the Juliet Lowe Fund raised money for the Girl Scouts of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Troop 30662 consists of 16 sophomore high school students who have been together since the girls were in first grade. In 2008, the Troop earned the Girl Scout Silver Award. Presently they are working on completing the qualifications required to secure the Girl Scout Gold Award --the highest achievement in Girl Scouts.
