Acalanes Baseball Gives Back
Submitted by Kimberly Henderson
The Acalanes varsity baseball team spent several hours this past Saturday afternoon playing a Sandlot baseball game with the Lafayette Little League Challenger team, the Giants. New head varsity coach Justin Hughes and his staff were enthusiastic and quick to embrace the opportunity to have the team spend time with the kids and provided the opportunity for everyone to have a great time together.
His efforts were supported by long time Challenger League organizer and supporter Rosemary Kirbach and family, as well as the Diede family, Henderson family, LaHonta family, the Lafayette A's Foundation and many other volunteers and families from both teams as well as the entire Acalanes varsity baseball team.
The Challenger team is made up of special needs children who love the game of baseball. The common bond of baseball was a great way for the varsity team to interact, teach, and play with the kids from the Challenger team.
The Challenger League kids received a banner bearing all of their names, and each player received a medal from the varsity team that they could wear home and remember the great day they had with the Dons.
