March and April were very successful months for the Orinda Aquatics Junior Group.
Established in 1995, Orinda Aquatics is a year-round USA Swimming program. The program is directed at all levels of swimming and dedicated to the maximum development of each swimmer, as both an athlete and an individual.
Swimmers ranging in age from 9 to 14 participated in four key meets, ending with the Junior Olympics (JO) Championship in San Ramon and the Far Western Championships in Morgan Hill. Thirty-eight swimmers posted over 300 lifetime best swims, eight Sectional Cuts, 11 new Pacific Reportable Times (PRT), 21 new Far Western times, 22 new Junior Olympic times and 20 new "A" times.
Mary Allison Ashby (12) placed first at the JO meet in the 50 back (27.87) and the 100 free (54.52) and fourth in the 50 fly (27.88)) and 500 free (5:18.71). She broke the Pacific Swimming Record in the 100 back with a time of 58.38. Her 50 and 100 back times now rank in the All Time Top 100 Times in USA Swimming for 11-12 girls.
