This year there is an easy way for local fans of fireworks to financially support Moraga's 4th of July celebration. Jay Ingram, Moraga Parks and Recreation Director, has applied for a $10,000 grant offered by the Liberty Mutual Group called "Bring Back The 4th." Residents have to fill out a short 8-question quiz pertaining to the history of the patriotic celebration. Liberty Mutual will offer ten grants to the small, medium and large towns that turn the most questionnaires (the accuracy of answers is not relevant.) The last day to take the quiz is June 14.
"When people fill out the questionnaire, they are asked to give their zip code and an email address," said Ingram, "Liberty Mutual guarantees that the email addresses will be used only for the purposes of verifying contest entry and to notify people when the ten grant winners are determined."
Ingram explained that the money would help pay for fireworks, security, staffing costs, and a magic show. "We are not in jeopardy of losing the fireworks," he said, "but our goal is to raise enough money so the Town does not have to subsidize the celebration." To take the quiz, go to www.bringbackthe4th.com. Residents of all ages are encouraged to take the quiz. If you'd rather contribute the traditional way, go to the Town web site, www.moraga.ca.us or call 888-7045.
