| Tyler Sorenson, a junior at Acalanes High School, began race walking after his younger sister, Nicolette, introduced him to the sport. A Junior Olympic Champion herself, Nicolette's success only foreshadowed Tyler's. Tyler has won five Junior Olympic race walking championships.
Tyler recently competed in the World Cup of Race Walking in Chihuahua, Mexico in May. He finished in 18th place out of 36 walkers in the Junior competition (19 and under). He was the second youngest competitor in the event. Together with his teammate, Trevor Barron, a senior in high school from Pennsylvania who finished ninth overall, they were the sixth place team in the world, the highest team finish the US has ever had.
Tyler will continue his world travels in July, competing at the World Junior Championships in Athletics in Moncton, Canada, the largest track and field event in the World for athletes 19 and under.
Tyler holds three age group records in the 3k and 15k distances in race walking and also holds the US Freshman and Sophomore indoor mile national records.
Tyler will be one of 20 track and field athletes from the US to participate in the World Youth Olympics in Singapore; he will compete in the 10,000 meter race walk.
