The Contra Costa Fire Protection District (CON Fire) was called to a house fire at 3111 Sandalwood Court in Lafayette on Sunday, June 20. According to CON Fire Dispatch, the call was received at 7:37 p.m. Tagged a two-alarm fire, the first unit was on scene by 7:43 p.m. with another team arriving soon thereafter. In all, eight fire trucks, two battalion chiefs and a 'breathing support' vehicle was on scene. Dispatch also said that an ambulance was called but not needed and that PG&E was called to monitor wires that were seen smoking.
According to Battalion Chief Kevin McCarthy's initial report, the property resident heard the sound of fire behind a door and retreated to a bedroom. He said the resident found the phone line dead, then removed a screen and climbed out the window; neighbors came to her aid and escorted her to the street.
CON Fire Dispatch said the fire was knocked down by 7:58 p.m. and the last engine left the scene at 10:37 p.m. The garage of the house was completely destroyed and roof of the home was damaged. There were no reports of injuries and no further investigation is scheduled.
