Steve Israel, Scoutmaster for Moraga Boy Scout Troop 234, presented the troop's five newest Eagle Scouts at an Eagle Court of Honor on May 23, 2010. Cameron Adams, James Creek, Bradley Silva and Christopher Wonder just graduated from Campolindo High School and will be attending college next year; Stephen Iwata will be a junior at Campolindo next year.
The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest achievement in scouting and can only be attained by completing many years of community service, camping, leadership positions and an Eagle Project benefiting the community. Less than 5% of all boys in scouting reach this level.
The Eagle projects led by these five scouts resulted in over 1,000 hours of service. They completed the following work:
- Constructed rolling storage chests for Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation
- Restored the natural habitat of Las Trampas Creek as it flows through Lafayette Christian Church property
- Cleared trails at Hacienda de las Flores Park and created a map of the property
- Built and sealed 120 feet of commercial fence on the right entrance of Lafayette Reservoir
- Organized and restocked emergency supplies at Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School
Over 200 family, friends and fellow scouts were on hand at Lafayette Christian Church to celebrate their achievements, the 25th Anniversary of Troop 234 and the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scouts.
