On behalf of everyone at Las Trampas, we would like to thank the Rotary Club of Lafayette for their generous donation of $700 to support adults with developmental disabilities. Funds will help support programs such as the Entrepreneurs Club.
The Entrepreneurs Club excites people about various business possibilities by exploring their interests and designing opportunities for their growth. All businesses start with an idea and people with disabilities have ideas but need support in learning the steps of a business plan.
At initial brainstorming meetings, consumers discussed shredding, jewelry making, recycling, gardening and writing as business possibilities. With assistance from their club coach and staff, they are learning new concepts such as products, supplies, budget, advertising, and customers. They are subtly developing personal responsibility as they face challenges and solve problems. A growth experience, they are learning about the hard work that is needed to make an idea work.
What staff have observed is that although the projects are individually conceived and developed, these new entrepreneurs encourage each other and celebrate their successes together. As their businesses progress, they hope to "go public" and share their experiences and products with the community. Who knows? Maybe they will have mergers in the future!
