Lafayette Police Blotter

Driving Under the Influence, 6/29/10 An 18-year-old Lafayette resident drove his 2005 Volkswagen Passat off the road and hit a tree, injuring his front passenger. The unfortunate incident occurred at the intersection of Moraga and Silver Springs Road. The passenger was treated for injuries and the driver was offered a lift to the Martinez Detention Facility where he was charged with DUI. Welcome to adulthood.

Can I Buy You a Cup of Coffee? 6/29/10 An alert Safeway shopper placed the suspect under Private Persons Arrest after he observed her stow a bag of coffee under her sweater and leave the store without paying for it. The shopper alerted Safeway employees but the store didn't want to pursue the matter. However, the shopper insisted on holding the coffee thief under Private Persons Arrest until Lafayette Police arrived. Police released the 43-year-old suspect to her daughter with the promise she'll appear in court.

If Only He'd Replaced the Headlight... 7/1/10 Police stopped an Oakland driver at the intersection of Pleasant Hill and Mt. Diablo for a burned-out headlight. When the officer made contact with the driver, he noted the smell of marijuana flowing from the vehicle and discovered the subject's Driver's License was suspended. The subject admitted to having marijuana in the car and stepped out when asked. However, the subject refused to remove his hands from his pockets or respond to questions if he had anything illegal on his person. When officers attempted to detain the subject, a brief struggle ensued and the subject was pepper-sprayed and taken to the ground. The subject was given a ride to the Martinez Detention Facility. Bet he could have used a cup of coffee, too.
