The Moraga Junior Women's Club recently released the results of its fundraising efforts for 2009-2010. This year the Moraga Juniors donated $24,000, representing all of the proceeds from its 7th Annual Garden Tour, to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano's Farm 2 Kids program (http://www.foodbankccs.org/get-help/farm-2-kids.html).
This money will ensure that children whose families cannot afford to keep food on the table will be provided with fresh fruit and vegetables. Produce is perishable and expensive. Many families have trouble feeding their kids the nutrients that are essential for developing children. Every week, Farm 2 Kids provides 3-5 pounds of fresh produce to over 6,500 children in 58 after school programs in Contra Costa and Solano counties.
In addition, the Moraga Juniors donated more than $5,000 to Lamorinda organizations. In the past, when the economy was good, the club was able to do more outside of our community, knowing that programs within the community were fully funded. But with the way that local governments and other organizations are being affected, the Juniors voted as a group to support many of the organizations that bring programs to the community that our families enjoy and sometimes take for granted. The following donations were made this year:
First time donations: - Moraga July 4th Fireworks Fund
- Moraga Youth Involvement
Committee - Family Movie Night
- Moraga Parks Foundation -
Summer Concert Series
Repeat Donations:
- Friends of Moraga Library for
Children's programs - puppet
shows and other programs
- Lamorinda SPIRIT Van - elderly
transportation program
- Assemblies at Moraga's three
elementary schools
- Moraga Education Foundation
The club reports that it could not have done any of this without the support of our local businesses, in all three communities, that continue to donate to our three major annual fundraisers, Halloween Carnival, Egg Hunt and Garden Tour. They would also like to acknowledge the time and support of the 100+ women who make up the Moraga Junior Women's Club. Visit our web site for more info
