Lamorinda Fights to the Top at the National Karate Championships

The USA-National Karate Federation held its 2010 National Championships & Team Trials at the Greenville Bi-Lo Center in South Carolina on July 10-13th. This event also determines the berths for both the Junior and Senior USA Teams. Six competitors from the Northern California Karate-do (NCK) dojo in Walnut Creek competed at this elite event, garnering a total of two gold, five silver, and five bronze medals. Three of the NCK athletes are from Moraga: Chris Wellbrook, Asenath Yeung and Joseph Tsuboi. Wellbrook captured silver in the competitive Boys 16 year-old Advanced Open Kumite division and a bronze in the Advanced Open Kata division. Yeung went all the way to the finals round in the Girls 15 year-old Advanced Open Kata division, and won a silver medal. Tsuboi came back on recharge to earn a bronze medal in the Boys 14 year old Advanced Open Kata division.
