Pear Festival, September 25th
The arrival of fall in Moraga means the return of an annual tradition - it's all about pears. The 12th Annual Pear Festival will be held on Saturday, September 25, from 10am-4pm at the Moraga Commons Park. Sponsored by the Town of Moraga and coordinated by resident John Haffner, the Festival will offer activities for all ages. Morning entertainment will be provided by local youth groups from Campolindo High School and from the Orinda Idol competition. "Pacific Coast" will perform from 11am-1pm, and the "Dave Matthews Blues Band" will perform from 1:30-4pm thanks to a donation from the Moraga Park Foundation. Pear pies will be among the various foods available, while Parkmon Vineyards and the Lamorinda Winegrowers Association will offer wine tasting. The Moraga Women's Society will provide "jumpies' for the little ones. Artists, businesses and service associations will have booths at the festival and, as this is an election year, the 'Pear Political Pavilion" will be the ideal place for residents to meet the candidates. Orinda Night Out, September 30th
On Thursday, September 30th, from 5-8pm, Orinda is celebrating the 3rd annual Orinda Night Out. Join your neighbors and plan a potluck dinner, an ice cream social, a happy hour, or a block party to celebrate the event. September is National Emergency Preparedness Month, and this event provides the perfect opportunity to get a Neighborhood Watch/Emergency Preparedness group in place. Plus, it is a fun way to get to know your neighbors better. If you need help with planning or would like to have a representative from the Orinda Police Department, the Orinda City Council, the Moraga Orinda Fire District, or the Orinda Citizen Corps Council visit your neighborhood event, please contact Rebecca Kunzman: (925) 254-1849 or rkunzman@comcast.net.
