AN OPEN LETTER FROM GAYLE B. UILKEMA, SUPERVISORCONTRA COSTA BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

Early this summer, during a routine medical checkup, small abnormalities were discovered in my laboratory results. With additional comprehensive testing, it has been determined that I have ovarian cancer.
The first phase of my recovery plan was surgical. That component has recently been completed and has been successful.
The next phase of my recovery plan is chemotherapy which will begin soon.
One of the blessings of a diagnosis such as mine is that early detection has made a huge difference in the prognosis for recovery. Regular checkups provide opportunities for early detection of health problems and allow for rapid intervention and for the success of a recovery plan. My prognosis is good.
I ask for your support and your prayers during this unexpected journey.

Sincerely,
Gayle B. Uilkema
