| New Town Manager for Moraga
| By Sopie Braccini | | |
The Moraga Town Council is expected to approve the appointment of a new Town Manager at this week’s Council meeting. Jill Keimach, currently Fremont’s Community Development Director, should take the helm on November 1st. Mike Segrest, who announced last May that he intended to step down from the Town Manager post for personal reasons, says the council made a great choice. Segrest plans to end his employment with the Town of Moraga at the end of October, whether or not he has another job. Keimach will be the third Town Manager in two years. Council Member Dave Trotter says Keimach will be a great asset. “She was one of our two final candidates and even though she does not have experience as a town manager per se, she is very knowledgeable about economic development and has a very strong financial background.” Trotter added that the budget for community development in Fremont is bigger than the Moraga’s overall budget. Mayor Ken Chew believes Keimach’s motivation to serve Moraga is very strong. “She is taking a very significant pay cut to come to Moraga,” he says, “but she wants to work here, already knows the community and the college, and the Council feels that she will be very good for Moraga.” Keimach’s current salary in Fremont is $200,000 per year; she will earn a base salary of $168,000 in Moraga. According to Chew, Keimach combines very strong training and experience in development, coupled with an approachable but tough personality. The Town received over 60 applications for the job; the top seven candidates were interviewed and the final three met with the Town’s department heads before the final selection was made. Keimach is a Berkeley resident and UC Berkeley alumni; she will not be offered a relocation package.
