Mystery nose injury, 6/28/11 Just after midnight Moraga officers were dispatched to St. Mary's College to assist fire department personnel with a 65-year-old man with an injury to his nose. He was too confused to provide details regarding his reason for being on campus. Unlike some college kids who just may have had a trifle too much beer, paramedics determined that the gentleman was suffering from a medical problem and speculated it was probably a diabetic episode. Turns out he was staying on campus for a conference. He was taken to John Muir Hospital.
Drunk and Disorderly, 6/26/11 At 6:30 in the morning, officers responded to Walford Drive on a report of a suspicious subject in the backyard. The same fellow had been reported prowling in the area two hours earlier. Shocker - the 20-year-old male subject had been drinking and appeared disoriented. He was arrested for public intoxication.
Skate Park sign stolen, 6/25/11 Sometime during the night the metal sign that spelled out operating hours and rules for the Moraga Skate Park disappeared. Unknown suspects must have really wanted it, since they removed four security bolts to separate it from the pair of wooden posts it was mounted on. Value of the sign that our economically strapped town will have to replace is $500. Note to thief/thieves: feel free to return it.
Very petty theft, 6/25/11 A T.J. Maxx store employee alerted officers to an alleged shoplifter. The adult female subject was observed coming into the store and hiding two cosmetic items on her person and leaving the store without paying. Merchandise totaled $21.98. The person reporting the incident wanted to make a citizen's arrest, so signed the appropriate Citizen's Arrest Form and the officers took the suspect into custody.
Car Vandalism, 6/24/11 A security guard for the Moraga Country Club called police at 3:00 in the morning to report popping sounds in the 800 block of Country Club Drive and went to investigate. He found two cars with smashed out rear windows. Cops and the security guard searched the area for suspects but came up empty handed. Estimated damage $750.
Bilked elder, 6/09/11 A Birchwood Drive resident got a phone call with someone pretending to be her grandson. The suspect convinced Grandma that he needed money for an emergency. Two wire transfers were sent totaling $594.00 via Western Union to Illinois.
