Gayle Uilkema is Lafayette's 2012 Citizen of the Year. With a long history of public service on the Lafayette City Council and four terms as a County Supervisor, she recently announced she will not be running for a fifth term.
"Gayle's service to the residents of Lafayette and Contra Costa County goes beyond the number of meetings she attended and the decisions she made," said long-time friend and City Council Member Don Tatzin. "What distinguishes Gayle from others in public service is the manner in which she serves. She is always accessible, puts the needs of constituents first, and trusts the judgment of citizens to know what is best for them and what they need and want from government. I am privileged to have known and served with her for more than 30 years."
A dinner in her honor is planned for Friday March 23, 2012 at the Lafayette Park Hotel & Spa. For more information, contact the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce at (925) 284-7404. C. Tyson
Currently there are three candidates vying for Gayle Uilkema's seat on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, 2nd District in the June 5, 2012 election: Sean White, Candace Kay Andersen, and Tomi Diane Van De Brooke.
