Orinda Intermediate School (OIS) students and social entrepreneurs Katherine Cane and Blake Sharp, age 13, are raising funds to help provide shoes for 4,000 homeless and low-income children in the Bay Area as part of OIS's Take Action Project. The two are selling neon shoelaces, bracelets and baked goods, and donating the money to the non-profit My New Red Shoes. With every $12 donation, Blake and Katherine will donate a brand new pair of shoes directly to the cause (they found a great deal on lace-up sneakers). They've also teamed up with Table 24 in Orinda which will donate 10 percent of dinner proceeds May 15 to My New Red Shoes; simply mention the fundraiser "My New Red Shoes" or say, "This is for the fundraiser," or "This is for Blake and Katherine." The students will also be out front selling shoes that evening with a goal of selling 24 shoes in honor of Table 24. (A big thank you to Table 24 for its generosity.)
