For the second year in a row, Lamorinda boasts a USA Water Polo Junior Olympic national champion. Last year, Lamorinda's 16-under boys' team earned the title in Irvine. This year, as part of the 18-under team, the boys took first in the platinum division of the USA Water Polo 43rd Annual Junior Olympics at the Avery Aquatic Center at Stanford.
Lamorinda rattled off an 8-1 record over the four-day, 48-team national tournament. JD Ratchford of Campolindo High School was named MVP.
This championship culminates the age group careers of seven players, many of whom have been a part of Lamorinda's club since the fourth grade. All 7 will be headed off to continue their water polo efforts in college.
Lamorinda's younger age group teams also competed in the USA Water Polo Junior Olympic Championships for boys.
