With that message, Andersen virtually clinched reelection as Contra Costa County District 2 Supervisor.
Since no other candidate filed paperwork by the March 11 deadline, Andersen will run unopposed in the June 7 primary election. County supervisor is a non-partisan office; voters can vote for any candidate from any political party. So the candidate who secures a majority vote in the primary is automatically elected and does not appear on the November ballot.
Only a technicality can prevent Andersen's June victory.
District 2, which includes Lamorinda, comprises 131,110 registered voters as of Nov. 2, according to the county election guide. If a qualified write-in candidate receives 65,556 votes - 50 percent plus one - in the June primary, that candidate becomes the new District 2 Supervisor. To qualify, a write-in candidate must file paperwork by May 24.
Calling that scenario a long-shot is an understatement. "I'm not aware of any jurisdiction where that has ever happened," Canciamilla said.
"I am honored and humbled that no one has challenged me," Andersen said. "With all of the mayors and council members of our cities, any one of them could have taken on this race and presented a real challenge."
Andersen's second full term will commence Jan. 2.
