The city of Orinda is preparing to launch a new website early next year and is sponsoring a photo contest, "Adore Orinda," asking members of the community to submit exceptional photos that provide perspective on the city's vibrancy, vitality and viability.

Winning entries will be unveiled on the new city website, will receive recognition at a city council meeting and will be featured on the city's various media platforms - the Orinda Way Newsletter, Orinda Outlook and the city Activity Guide. Winners will be selected by representatives of the city.

Submitting a photo for the contest constitutes permission for the city to use your photograph either online or in print. Photographers will be credited and will retain the copyright for photos used.

The city seeks entries in four categories:

1) Parks and Open Space: any park and open space within city limits

2) Built Environment: downtown scenes, streetscapes, neighborhoods, hillsides.

3) Community Life: arts and culture, city events, night life, and recreation programs

4) Digitally Altered: must fit within one of the three categories listed

Except in category 4, photos may not have been altered with any computer software. Entrants may submit a photo in all four categories but may only submit one entry per category.

Entrants will be separated into two divisions, Youth (under 18) and Adult. Age is determined at the time of submission. Entrants under the age of 18 must have permission of a parent or legal guardian.

The rules specify that entries must be suitable for display on a public website, and the city reserves the right to reject any entry due to its objectionable content such as the use of profanity, nudity, drug, alcohol or tobacco use, or cruelty to persons or animals.

Entries are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, and winners will be notified by Jan. 30.

Complete information on how to enter the contest is located at www.cityoforinda.app.box.com/s/fq55d6hnebivzma79rvqltu4sojh8peg or by contacting Recreation Supervisor Sheena Wellman-Miner at sminer@cityoforinda.org or (925) 253-4207.
