The Moraga Town Council decided that the all-abilities playground to be donated by the Moraga Rotary be installed at the Moraga Commons Park.
Council members said they preferred the more centrally located Commons than at Rancho Laguna Park, where it had first been envisioned.
The council indicated its desire to see the new structure installed close to the existing upper playground - the tot lot - and asked city staff to refine a configuration that would spare the mature trees that are now shading the existing playground. The final resolution stated that the town would pay for the preparation work that is needed at the Commons, in the range of $130,000, using developer fees.
Only councilmember Teresa Onoda stated her preference for installing the new playground for kids with all abilities at Rancho Laguna. She cited first cost reasons, and second because she expects that children on the spectrum of autism, for whom this park is also conceived, would enjoy a more peaceful environment.
