"Anything Goes," the title of the Moraga Art Gallery's latest show, captures the essence of the art on display Sept. 22 through Nov. 28. Featuring the work of Lafayette's Judy Miller and Lucy Beck, the show includes not only the paintings, jewelry, ceramics, sculpture, glassware, etchings, woodwork, photographs and prints by the gallery's core of members and guest artists but also the work of 17 members of the Contra Costa Camera Club, a group of expert photographers displaying their finest work.
Miller's sculptural work is a buoyant reminder that great art can evoke moments of everyday life, as, for example, in "Ready to Play," a row of loose-limbed, bench-warming ball players frozen in time like birds on a wire. Her paintings and multi-media assemblages - unique explorations of texture and color - are provocative and spontaneous.
The gallery's Beck, also of the Camera Club, specializes in delicate and alluring floral images of translucent petals and blossoms in vibrant colors, as in her exhibit's centerpiece, "Brilliant Orange/Red Poppy."
On Saturday, September 25 from 5 to 7 p.m., the public is invited to view the art, meet the artists and enjoy snacks and live music by the popular Fretful String Band, whose repertoire of original songs, blues, folk, country, Motown and rhythmic Americana has kept feet tapping for almost a decade. Wine and light snacks will be served.
The gallery, located at 432 Center Street in Moraga's Rheem Shopping Center, is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. For more information visit www.moragaartgallery.com or call (925) 376-5407.
