| | Photo Jeff Heyman | | | | | | Summer has to come to an end eventually. And the unofficial end of summer is, of course, Labor Day, which this year at the San Pablo Reservoir was a picture perfect day to say goodbye to summer fun. Families gathered on the grassy slopes of the San Pablo Reservoir Recreation Area's shoreline park to enjoy a traditional Labor Day barbecue, while others practiced the tried and true summer pastime of fishing the waters of the well-stocked - trout and catfish! - reservoir.
The San Pablo Reservoir Recreation Area, just north of Orinda, is a perfect leisure spot for all ages. It offers a range of outdoor activities including fishing, boating, picnicking, kayaking, and hiking throughout the year. Boat rentals include the family favorite "patio boats," although kayaks, row boats, and aluminum fishing boats are also available - or bring your own boat to the boat launch facility just south of the recreation area.
Be ready for some of the best flat water kayaking and canoeing in the East Bay. Paddle along the 14 miles of shoreline and discover sandy beaches, great fishing spots, and spectacular wildlife viewing. Not a water person? Enjoy the picturesque picnic areas, playground, or the trails that weave throughout the wooded hillsides and along the shores of the reservoir.
Summer may be officially gone, but you can still have a wonderful time all year around at the San Pablo Reservoir. The entrance to the reservoir's recreation area is located at 7301 San Pablo Dam Road between Orinda and El Sobrante. It's another fantastic reason life is so good here in Lamorinda. |
