Spring egg hunts kick off the season of family fun events
As one of the first of several family friendly spring events, the Moraga Junior Women’s Club held its 43rd Annual Spring Festival at Commons Park, attracting not only Lamorinda residents, but families from as far away as Pleasanton. The March 21 event had pre-sold 350 tickets to the Egg Hunt with more walk-up sales coming in at the venue itself.
Celebrating a milestone 55th anniversary, the Club went all out filling 6,000 colorful, plastic eggs with stickers and tiny toys. The Egg Hunt was held in three shifts of ages 0-2, 3-4, and 5-8. Lined up around a perimeter that contained their glistening goals, children waited with anticipation for the signal to breach the barrier and collect as many eggs as their baskets could hold, while parents cheered and encouraged from the sidelines.
Posing for a photo with a giant bunny (a high school student volunteer), making crafts at various tables, visiting sponsor booths, playing lawn games, jumping in bounce houses, or grabbing a bite at one of the food trucks made for a “cool” way to spend a warm day for the whole family.
On April 4, children and their families had additional opportunities to hunt for those elusive eggs at the Rotary Club of Orinda and the City of Orinda's Hop into Spring Community Egg Hunt for toddlers through second graders at the Orinda Community Park, and youngsters grabbed for loose candy scattered on the green lawn during the Rotary Club of Lafayette's annual Candy Scramble at Lafayette Plaza in downtown Lafayette.
More springtime family fun in April can be had as the Taste of the World Food Trucks return to Orinda on Thursday, April 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. near the Orinda Community Park, and more truck fun is planned for kids during the City of Orinda’s Touch-A-Truck event at Wilder, where kids (ages 2.5 to 11) can explore public service, emergency, utility, and construction vehicles up close. With a focus on children ages 3–6, this rain-or-shine event offers three timed sessions and is $12 per child. Advance registration is required.
Spring lovers can also close out the month’s festivities by joining Mindful Littles and Orinda Parks and Recreation for the free Earth Care Carnival from 9 to 11 a.m. April 25 at the Orinda Community Centera to play games, engage in hands-on service, and learn how to care for the community from the inside out or enjoy the Earth Day Celebration at 5A Rent-a-Space in Moraga from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 25.
Have a “hoppy” spring!
