At 30 years old and likely one of the youngest business owners in Rheem Valley Shopping Center, Camille Bayani’s BEING Hair and Skin Studio is helping her to fulfill a passion she’s had since she was a teen.

Bayani acquired her esthetician's license in 2015.  What drove her to the profession, she says, “was my own skin journey as a teenager – the effect of hormones and everything.  It sounded like fun.  It was around 2014 to 2015 when skin care and the makeup boom hit.  Also, there was a love of skin care.  After COVID a lot of people were more into taking care of themselves.”

The journey began after high school when Bayani worked for a home construction company that helped her acquire office/business skills.  “My side job was going to people’s houses and doing their brows.  I never planned on owning my own business, because I enjoyed being an office assistant for the construction company.”

After getting her esthetician’s license, Bayani continued her education with an associate’s degree in business from Foothill College.  Between 2021 – 2024, she operated Esthetique by Camille as a solo operation in Benicia, specializing in lashes, facials, brows and more.  Eventually, she was ready to expand her business and decided to settle in Moraga.  “I timed it perfectly – just after COVID.”

BEING is located at 508 Center St. in the Rheem Valley Shopping Center, having taken over the former storefront of Reflexion, which was also a salon.  Approaching its two-year mark in Rheem, the name BEING came about because Bayani “wanted to use one word that represents you as an individual.  ‘Self’ was already taken.  My mom suggested ‘being,’ and I liked it.”

The studio intends to make it “your destination for beauty and self-care, offering a full range of services to help you look and feel your best.  Our goal is to enhance your natural beauty while giving you a relaxing, confidence-boosting experience every visit.”  That said, BEING’s services include eyelash extensions/lash lifts, facials, permanent makeup, waxing, brow services, permanent jewelry, and hair.

Bayani’s staff consists of her cousin Miranda Lastra and Haley Michelson (both licensed estheticians), and hair stylist Theresa Bocobo, the former owner’s daughter.

BEING offers so much more than a typical salon.  They also cut children’s hair, and folks are allowed to bring kids along to mommy’s appointment, because Lastra has nanny experience.  Price packages are offered to brides, and they also host GLOW (full experience) parties, coffee tasting parties, are disability accessible, have WiFi, and clients can get Facial Loyalty Cards that earn a 15% discount towards the fifth visit.

“You have to follow all of the trends and changes,” said Bayani, “and also make it an educational experience for your skin.”
