Acalanes baseball struggled to reach the NCS championship game, and it was not due to skill. The #3 Dons swept through the early rounds, including an 11-8 upset against #2 Miramonte, to reach the finals against San Marin. Originally scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at Saint Mary’s College, the game was postponed due to rain.
Rescheduled for Tuesday, June 7 at San Marin High School, the Dons again, were forced to accept the unexpected. Tuesday night’s game was suspended due to darkness. The teams battled to the tenth inning but could not break the tie. Neither team could reschedule since finals take place this week at both schools. As a result, the NCS declared San Marin (22-5-1) and Acalanes (17-10-1) co-champions.
Acalanes had a 4-2 advantage heading into the seventh inning but San Marin’s catcher Mitchell Ho hit a two-run double to tie the game, sending it into extra innings.
