ART

The Hearst Art Gallery at Saint Mary's College in Moraga will reopen on Sunday, July 10, with Pam Glover: A Life in Art. Glover, an influential landscape painter, was born in China in 1924, moved to the Bay Area after World War II and died last year after a remarkable career in the arts. The Native American in the Western Landscape will reopen in the Keith Room on the same day. The Hearst Art Gallery is open from Wednesdays through Sundays, 11am- 4:30pm. Admission is $4 for adults; free for groups, K-12th graders, Friends of the Hearst Art Gallery members and all military personnel and their families this summer. The Lafayette Gallery's newest exhibit, "Sun Kissed", runs to July 23rd. Bring some sunshine into your day-the gallery will be filled with the brilliant light, color and energy of the season of sunshine. Moraga Art Gallery member Donna Arganbright and Guest Artist Sharon Tama will be featured in its new show, Off the Wheel, Off the Canvas, through August 13. The public is invited to view Arganbright's original stoneware and Tama's acrylic paintings along with gallery members' work. The Moraga Art Gallery is located at 570 Center St in Moraga. MUSIC

The Lafayette United Methodist Church, located at 955 Moraga Rd. in Lafayette, is having Jazz in July on Sunday morning, June 26 at 10am. The service, in the fellowship hall, will feature the Joyful Noise Jazz Band and will be followed by a chicken picnic lunch. All are welcome. Orinda Starlight Players present Agatha Christie's "The Mousetrap" Thursday June 23rd, 8 pm and Friday June 24 and Sat June 25, 8:30pm at the Outdoor Theater in Orinda Community Center Park, 26 Orinda Way. Cal Shakes presents Titus Andronicus by William Shakespeare directed by Joel Sass through June 26. Learn how to belly-dance while raising money to help save our environment. Join dance instructor Surreya for a heart pumping Belly-Dance Party on Sunday, June 26, 5 -7pm. No prior experience needed. Moraga's First Annual Red, white and Blues Festival on July 1st from 5 to 8pm will feature music, local wines and appetizers. Sons in Retirement Lamorinda Branch 171 meets the first Wednesday monthly at Holy Trinity Culture Center 1700 School St. Moraga. Social hour 11am, lunch 12pm. The after lunch speakers will be Ed Rusnak and Jon Elfin, Financial Planners with Sagemark Consulting. Ed has an MBA and is a Certified Retirement Planning Consultant. Jon also teaches a course at St. Marys College called "Financial Planning for Successful Retirement". Their topic will be "Ways to Protect your Assets. Sign up now for the new Lamorinda and Friends Senior Bowling League. The 2011 season begins on Tuesday September 13th at 1pm at Diablo Lanes in Concord, 1500 Monument Blvd. The cost per week is $11. Individuals are welcome or join as a team with a couple of friends. The league is for bowlers 55 and older. No average score or bowling experience is needed. It is designed to be low key yet fun for individuals and friends who enjoy a weekly activity, a little socializing and want some exercise. 8 a.m. The Roadrunners' Fun Run and Haley's Run for a Reason front of Community Center Choose between a 2-mile run/walk or a 5-mile run through scenic parts of Orinda and EBMUD watershed. There is no fee for the Fun Run. To support Haley's Run for a Reason, which benefits research for SUDC (Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood), a small donation is requested. The parade will travel down Orinda Way to the viewing stand in front of the Community Center before ending at the Community Center Park.

Arts in Bloom in the Community Park
Tuesday, July 19th starting at 5:00 p.m.
The Orinda Arts Council is hosting an evening of visual and performing arts for the community. Starting at 5 p.m., there will be art exhibits and sales, a silent auction, arts & crafts activities for kids, and a hot dog and ice cream concession stand provided by Loard's. At 6:30 p.m., the Concert-in-the-Park featured performers will be the 2011 Orinda Idol Finalists

Opera in the Park

The Rotary Club of Orinda hosts a concert of opera performed the Bay Area's best. Children are welcome. Food, soft drinks, wine, and beer will be available.

June 29: Picasso: Masterpieces from the Museum National Picasso.
Lecture with slides led by experienced fine art docent on the extraordinary exhibition at the de Young museum of more than 100 masterpieces by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. 2:00 p.m.

July 6: The George Cole Quintet will perform at the Moraga Library, Wednesday, July 6, from 7-9 pm. Cole's excellent guitar work and his band's enticing instrumental and vocal harmonies make them a must-see for any fan of vintage jazz. The concert is free but preregistration is encouraged as seating is limited.
