Two Gaels were selected in the 2011 Major League Baseball draft.
A surprise pick came from the Los Angeles Dodgers who chose Mickey McConnell. McConnell, a four-year varsity basketball player and West Coast Conference Player of the Year, has not played baseball competitively since high school. The Dodgers picked McConnell in the 31st round with the 944th pick.
McConnell comes from a baseball family. His older brother was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2009.
Junior starting pitcher Kyle Barraclough was selected in the 40th round as the 1,228 pick by the Minnesota Twins.
Barraclough was named to the All-West Coast Conference First Team. He is seventh on the all-time career strike-out list with 210 and eighth on the all-time career wins with 16.
