Lafayette junior sailors Neil Marcellini, Jane McKee and Moraga Junior Instructors-in-Training Grace Ann Kerrick and Ellen Hahn were among the 82 junior sailors participating in the 21st annual Sail Camp at Stockton Sailing Club July 10-16th.
Sail Camp is offered by the Stockton Sailing Club, Richmond Yacht Club, and Santa Cruz Yacht Club. Each club provides boats, gear, chase boats, instructors, and parent help. The juniors, ages 8-14, sail and camp all week, taking daily lessons in their ability groups. With the exception of novices, each class holds it own series of races for the week.
During the first four days of racing, with some coaching in the different skill levels, Marcellini finished second in the Advanced competition. McKee finished 15th.
The El Toro Junior North American races were sailed on Friday and divided into Gold and Silver Fleets. At the end of the series, the top sailors were separated by only a few points. Marcellini of Richmond won first in the Gold Fleet. Mckee finished ninth.
