| Members of Kiwanis Club of Moraga Valley recently re-painted and sealed the map of the United States at Camino Pablo Elementary School. The map provides a hands-on learning tool for students. The sealant enables the students to write directly on the map with dry erase markers to add such features as capitals, rivers, and railroads.
The map was in great need of restoration. Tasks performed by the Kiwanis members included prepping the surface for paint, painting between the lines of the states, and painting three coats of a clear sealer, with sand placed on the second coat for traction. It is hoped that the recent restoration will allow the USA mural to last at least another ten years.
The project was led by Kiwanis member Tom Carr and included the assistance of many members of the Club, including Karen Reed, Rich Holden, Graig Crossley, Dick Ayres, Jason Evens, and Tom Westhoff.
Moraga School District Superintendent Bruce Burns was presented with marking pens at the August 18 Kiwanis Club of Moraga Valley meeting. Burns said "this map with special coating provides another form of interaction by allowing our students and teachers to write on the map and erase."
