Orinda Aquatics swimmers participated in the annual RCP Tiburon Mile Open Water Swim. Participants swam one nautical mile from Angel Island to Tiburon, braving the 58 degree water without wetsuits on Sunday, September 18.
Open water swimming expert Rick Arnason trained the OA participants with a practice swim the day before the big race at San Francisco Aquatic Park.
For many of the 12 participants, this was their first time attempting the Tiburon Mile. In the non-wetsuit division, swimmers included: Meghan Bicomong, Mitchell Carlson, Megan Fuqua, Alexa Hanley, Jenna Haufler, Cameron Hoyh, Megan Howard, Talbot Jacobs, Christine Lum, Albert Miao, and Sam Swinton.
Sven Campbell came in second in the wetsuit division.
Several OA Masters swimmers participated as well, including Cathy Hanley, Ramey Stevens and Karen Humphreys.
Orinda Aquatics, Inc. is a year-round swimming program for the youth of Orinda, Moraga, Lafayette and surrounding areas.
